Crazy Sound of The Week: Bullet Mule

This is a set of processed bullet and gun sound effects recorded at the “Cliffs” in the North Idaho mountains in October 2012. The 1st sound is the final composite mix and then the individual elements used to create it. There was no synthesis applied juts pitch change, transient enhancement, compression and some substantial hard limiting. All the processing was done via the VST Rack in Soundminer Pro. All sounds recorded with a Sennheiser MKH-8040ST into a Sound Devices 702 recorder. This set of sounds is FREE to download at 24-Bit 96kHz.

The sounds are made from a special shotgun shell called “Double Mule”. The shell has 3 small steel slugs with wires attached and twirls through the air when shot. Slowed down you can hear the mule “whinney” as it passes close by the microphone. The other sounds are from a 22 caliber bullet hitting a huge rock face and last but not least a custom Mauser rifle shot from the very edge of the cliff and has a really nice long echo tail.

Download the BWAV file at Soundcloud. Enjoy this Thanksgiving holiday gift and I very much appreciate all the very kind words and support for The Recordist sound libraries.
