Ultimate Foliage HD Professional Sound Effects Library from The Recordist is a one of a kind collection of High Definition foliage sound effects recorded and mastered at 24-Bit 96kHz. Included in the 196 tracks are over 400 unique leaf, bush, grass and tree branch performances ranging from the soft subtle rustling of leaves to hard hitting tree limbs. A sound effects collection like no other.

More than just leaves were recorded. There is fruit falling from trees, branches thrown into the forest, hard wood breaks, swishes, rake hits, slithering on dry leaves, wind Gusts and so much more.

This library was designed in part to give the sound designer a multitude of foliage textures that can be layered into any stereo or 5.1 natural outdoor soundscape. Also included are many diverse leaf swishes, impacts and rustling from many plant sources including bushes, cattails, ferns, maple tree limbs, hops, fruit trees, and grass.

I’ve been asked a few times, “You’re recording leaves? Why?” My short answer was because they are there. The long answer is because I’ve always needed some leaf-type sounds in my video game work. Whether it was for a fantasy forest ambient track sweetener, a tree monster, or a spaceship roaring low over trees, leaves come in very handy. So now the question is: What do I record and where do I record it? In this article I will detail, the best way I can, the adventure this turned out to be, what I learned, and how I put it all together.

Videos:
Recording the cutting and various actions of a maple tree. The tree was mostly dead within the main trunk. The were some thick, dry branches that I thought would make some great TREE MONSTER sound source material. I was able to get some nice heavy wood branch impacts, rustling and swishes. This was just a small portion of the many recording sessions for this new sound effects library. More to come.

While recording a branch swish over my Sennheiser MKH-8040ST microphone setup for ULTIMATE FOLIAGE SFX LIBRARY things got slightly out of control. I thought the Flip HD video camera was far enough away from the path of the branch but I was wrong. I was so focused on not hitting the microphone that I clocked the video camera and it went down hard. Oh well, the perils of recording foliage.
