Description
Presenting North Country Water HD Pro Sound Effects Library, a unique collection of water sound effects recorded in North Idaho at 24-bit 96kHz. Recording began over five years in and around the lakes, puddles, streams and drainage pipes here. This library includes many dual microphone recordings and very close up, intimate water events. There are some medium and distant perspectives of a few streams but this collection is basically intended for heavy sound design applications.
Included are large water dumps, aggressive thrashing, heavy splashes and subtle waves washing up on the shore of a lake. Many objects were used to perform water movement and other actions including a 55 gallon oil drum, hoses, jugs, sticks, towels and my trusty farm tractor. Drainage pipes, small and large, were recorded from the inside and out during a flash flood that occurred a while back. I squirted water into the tractor loader bucket and recorded the deep concrete trenches that move water out of the local fish hatchery.
Footsteps in shallow water and slushy snow are included along with a few toilets, close up and personal (sanitized first of course!) From the smallest stream trickle to raging culvert pipes and a few things in between, I hope this collection serves you well and you don’t have to pee too bad after using the sounds.
I don’t know about you, but when I was a child and I was near water I wanted to play in it. Well, now that I am a full grown crazy person and when I get near water all I want to do is record it. So here it is, me playing around with water with a few microphones. Enjoy! -Frank

The Making of North Country Water
Water. We have it in abundance here in North Idaho. When it’s moving, I go record it. The massive deep water lakes, the winding rivers, the spring snow melt run-off and the pipes that make sure it gets to where it’s going were recorded during the different seasons over the last few years. This sound effects collection is a close up and personal tribute to the amazing water sounds that can be heard here.
Big Water Splashes
Here are some sounds of dumping large amounts of water from my JD tractor onto a concrete surface. When I prepared for the dump everything looked like a go and I would get some nice, big splashes but I soon found out the the tractor was not level so most of the water poured out from one side and not evenly. After some dirt ramp adjustments (With a shovel, Argh!) and some quick checking with my iPhone level App I was ready to go.
The Water Barrel
As I was cleaning up the yard after years of Ultimate debris from making all the Ultimate sound effects collections I tried to move a 55 gallon barrel drum that has been sitting around for the last year or so. To my surprise it was half full of water. I assume the water had dripped in from the 3 inch hole on the top over the winter and spring. I found out that as I moved it the water sloshed around inside the 55 gallon drum. This was a col sound but I had an even better idea… I should tip it over and record the water flowing out. I set up a MKH-8040 and a SD-702 about 3 feet away from where the top of the barrel should touch the ground.
