SoundField ST450 Ambisonic Gun Test

I recently acquired the SoundField ST450 MKII Ambisonic Microphone and wanted to see how the unit responded to gun shots. As usual I was very excited to try a new piece of audio gear and rushed to get all the ingredients together for recording. Once I decided what I was going to test and how, I was off to the races! I placed the microphone in my driveway and recorded a 300 Blackout rifle along with a AK-47 and a AR-15 rifle. I used super sonic and subsonic ammunition along with a Gemtech ONE suppressor on the 300 Blackout. For the AK-47 and AR-15 I only shot supersonic unsuppressed. I did change the microphone postion and distance for the AK-47 and AR-15.

UH-1H Huey Helicopter Recording

I’ve been recording many helicopters this summer and when this Huey became available I jumped on it. I also was able to set microphones up when the Huey went for a few test flights. Below are some photos and a video from two separate recording sessions.

What started out as a small collection of helicopters recorded over the last few years has grown into a large and varied set of rotorcraft sound effects… Fairly quickly I might add. Unexpected? Yes. Totally fun? Yes. Here is the skinny on the transformation of Helicopters HD Mini into Helicopters HD pro. Read more

UH-60 Blackhawk Recording 2016

This month I have been recording lots of helicopters. One of the helicopters I’ve enjoyed recording the most has been the Sikorsky UH-60A Blackhawk Helicopter. This machine is a reconditioned unit from the military and is the real deal. It has been updated and modified to be used as a heavy lift helicopter but it still has the traditional sound of the original military hardware. Here are some sights and sounds from this amazing sound effects recording adventure.
