Presenting GUNFALL (One) HD Professional. The first in a series of sound collections that feature gun drops, kicks, slides, drags, butt stock hits and general mechanical handling layers from a variety of firearms. Featuring handguns, assault rifles, bolt action rifles and shotguns (double barrel & tactical) against a wide selection of surfaces. Also included are interior and exterior versions for a few surfaces.
Back Story: Two years ago I began searching for guns that I could throw around the yard. Since I did not want to toss functional guns onto the ground I had to find guns that could be basically destroyed. Eventually I came into the possession of four partially melted firearms that could be used to record this collection. These guns were inside a safe that survived a house fire. They were largely intact and would work perfectly with a few “modifications”.
Other “functional” guns were used for the mechanical handling sounds along with the butt stock impacts, shakes, grabs and some drops (carefully). I have a technique that I use when recording gun mechanical sounds that makes the gun sound like nothing you have heard before. This technique creates fantastic layers that can be used to give the drops, hits and slides some extra zing. Yes, zing.
I pinged sound designers on social media a while ago about what surfaces would be most useful and the ideas came pouring in. The surface and action suggestions were a bit overwhelming and I had to adjust things a bit and decided that the best way to approach this GUNFALL idea was to release the sounds in stages. This is “One”. “Two” will feature more surfaces and magazine actions along with more props and gun types. I am planning on adding magazine drops as a free update.

This collection of over 3000 sounds was recorded with a Schoeps MS microphone set to a Sound Devices recorder. The files are decoded stereo from the original raw MS source. The Schoeps MK4/MK8 combination produced a very natural sound and summing to mono is perfect.
