Helicopters HD Pro contains 76 super cool helicopter sound effects. The helicopters were recorded while at the local county airport. Other are from random fly-bys over the studio and when out on location recording other material… and when they just happened to fly over the house.

Helicopters HD Pro includes the sounds from the previously released Helicopters HD Mini and adds many brand new sounds and helicopter models. The helicopters in this collection are from the local county airport (I try and bring doughnuts for the guys every time I show up), from random fly-bys over the house and when out on location recording other material.
Others are from airshows in the area and some are from pre-arranged recording sessions which I was able to get up close and personal with the aircraft. As a special bonus, a few select UH-60A Blackhawk sounds are included. These files are from a session recorded for a larger Blackhawk sound library to be released at a leter date.
There are eleven helicopter models in this collection. These include a Kaman K-1200 “K-Max” Heavy Lift Helicopter • Aerospatiale AS350B2 • AgustaWestland 119Kx “Koala” • Eurocopter AS350 B3 • Eurocopter EC120 • Bell UH-1H “Huey” • Bell 212 Twin “Huey” • Bell HH-1K • Boeing CH-47-D Chinook • Sikorsky UH-60A Blackhawk • Bell 407 and a tiny little Schweizer 269C.
Included are close, medium and distant fly bys along with a engine starts, shut downs and pre-flight hovering. The helicopters in this collection were recorded arriving and departing the airport and performing routine FAA re-certification maneuvers.
Special Note: On July 5, 2016 I was able to record the sound of a Kaman K-1200 Helicopter up close and personal with my Sennheiser MKH-8040ST Microphone system. I started 75ft away and then worked my way closer and then eventually positioned myself just under the rotors and then the turbine engine. The start up is from a medium distant perpective and the power down is very close up and may be reversed for a start up type sound. Extremely close up rotor “blade thwops” are included along with the turbine whining away at full throttle. A Bell 212 Twin Huey pass by and more AgustaWestland 119Kx sound goodness has been add also.
All new CH-47-D Chinook recordings from summer 2018. Included are close up and distant engine starts, hovering, departing and arriving. 8 new sound effects in this 3.4GB update! Contact The Recordist if you are a current license holder you can get the new sounds for free. They are also sold seperately. If you would like just the Chinook souds check out: CH-47D Chinook HD Professional

Helicopters Boeing CH-47-D “Chinook”
The Boeing CH-47 Chinook is an American twin-engine, tandem rotor heavy-lift helicopter. Its primary roles are troop movement, artillery placement and battlefield resupply. It has a wide loading ramp at the rear of the fuselage and three external ventral cargo hooks. The Chinook was designed and initially produced by Boeing Vertol in the early 1960s; it is now produced by Boeing Rotorcraft Systems.
Bell UH-1H “Huey”
The UH-1 was the workhorse of the US Army in Vietnam and for years after. Converted for civil use and with its engine upgraded from 1,300 to 1,800 horsepower the Huey has become the ultimate medium lift helicopter. Whether logging, firefighting, or providing precision delivery of construction supplies if it weighs less than 3,000 lbs the Huey takes it in stride.
Bell HH-1K “Kilo”
Bell was awarded a contract by the US Navy in December 1968 for a new search and rescue helicopter. The aircraft was designated the HH-1K and was basically a UH-1E with different avionics and the Lycoming T53-L-13 powerplant. Deliveries of the “Kilo” Huey started in May 1970. A total of 27 HH-1Ks were produced.
Sikorsky UH-60A “Blackhawk”
Long the workhorse of US Army aviation the Blackhawk is becoming a more common sight in civilian operations. With a combined 3,200 horsepower on tap the Blackhawk can lift up to 8,000 lbs on the hook and with its Stability Augmentation System.
Kaman K-1200 K-Max
While it may not look like any helicopter you have seen before, the K-Max is the gold standard in its lift capacity range. Designed as a flying crane it is the quietest, and lowest downwash helicopter in its weight class. With counter rotating rotor blades the need for an anti-torque tail rotor is eliminated allowing all available horsepower to go to lifting.
Aerospatiale AS350-B2
The AS350 appeared first under the Aerospatiale brand label but later in 1992 Aerospatiale and Daimler Benz Aerospace merged their helicopter divisions forming Eurocopter, since then it is recognized under the brand name Eurocopter. Role: Light utility helicopter.
AgustaWestland 119Kx “Koala”
The AgustaWestland AW119 (Koala) is an eight-seat utility helicopter powered by a single turboshaft engine produced for the civil market. Introduced as the Agusta A119 Koala prior to the Agusta-Westland merger, it is targeted at operators favoring lower running costs of a single-engine aircraft over redundancy of a twin.
Eurocopter EC120 Colibri
The Eurocopter (now Airbus Helicopters) EC120 Colibri (English: hummingbird) is a five-seat, single-engine, light helicopter. Jointly designed and developed by Eurocopter, China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC), Harbin Aviation Industries (Group) Ltd (HAIG) and Singapore Technologies Aerospace Ltd (STAero) at Eurocopter France’s Marignane facility, the EC120B is assembled by Eurocopter in France and Australia.
Eurocopter AS350 B3
The Eurocopter AS350 (Squirrel) is a single-engine light helicopter originally designed and manufactured in France by Aérospatiale (now Airbus Helicopters). The AS350 is a single engine helicopter, powered either by a Lycoming LTS101 or Turbomeca Arriel powerplant, that drives a three-blade main rotor, which is furnished with a Starflex rotor head. The type is well known for its high-altitude performance and has seen frequent use by operators in such environments.
Bell 407
The Bell 407 is a four-blade, single-engine, civil utility helicopter; a derivative of the Bell 206L-4 LongRanger. The 407 uses the four-blade, soft-in-plane design rotor with composite hub developed for the United States Army’s OH-58D Kiowa Warrior and is frequently used for corporate and offshore transport, as an air ambulance, law enforcement, electronic news gathering and movie making.
The Schweizer 269/300
The Hughes/Schweizer 300 is the most successful three seat helicopter built, with over 3400 produced by the two manufacturers over three decades. Hughes followed the two seat 269A with the slightly larger three seat 269B, which it marketed as the Hughes 300, which first flew in 1964.

This is footage shot with my iPhone 6+ while standing close to a Boeing CH-47-D “Chinook” helicopter as it was preparing to depart. The audio track is from a Schoeps MS microphone rig. I was holding the Schoeps MK4/MK8 MS microphone combination in my left hand while holding my phone with my right hand. As you can see, this gigantic rotorcraft puts out a huge amount of wind. I suppose it’s mostly luck but the Schoeps covered with a Rycote windscreen system held up quite well. Special thanks to Billings Flying Service for letting me know when they were leaving and for allowing me to set up a bunch of microphones around the helicopter.
July 5, 2016. I was able to record the sound of a Kaman K-1200 Helicopter up close and personal with my MKH-8040ST Microphone system. I started 75ft away and then worked my way closer and then eventually was just under the rotors and engine. I Love My Job!
