Product Description
Presenting The M60 Machine Gun HD Professional Sound Effects Library, a multi-channel collection of 129 Broadcast WAV tracks recorded at 24-Bit 192kHz and 24-Bit 96kHz. The M60 is a belt-fed machine gun that fires the 7.62 mm NATO cartridge (.308 winchester) commonly Used in larger rifles. The M60 Used for this collection is a M60E3: An updated, lightweight version adopted in the 1980s. The M60E3 was introduced circa 1986 in an attempt to remedy problem with earlier versions of the M60 for infantry use. It is a lightweight, “improved” version intended to reduce the load carried by the gunner.
The gun was recorded on three separate occasions. There were two sessions of shooting and foley and one extra foley session. All the foley was recorded outside as the gun is most likely Used in that environment. The first shooting session captured the medium close and distant perspectives from many positions in mono and stereo. The second shooting session captured the close up and medium distant perspectives in mono and stereo to round out the collection. All aspects of the gun were recorded including single and multiple burst shooting, mechanisms, handling and bullet belt actions.
This comprehensive collection includes the 96K mastered and processed sounds and as a bonus, the original raw sounds recorded at 192K from the two Sound Devices SD-702 recorders and a Fostex FR-2. Over 500 individual sounds were carefully arranged and time locked with complete metadata embedded. Also included are photos from the sessions and the sound list in PDF and Excel format.

The M60 (formally named United States Machine Gun, Caliber 7.62 mm, M60) is a family of American general purpose machine guns firing 7.62×51mm NATO cartridges from a disintegrating belt of M13 links. There are several types of live ammunition approved for use in the M60, including ball, tracer, and armor-piercing rounds.
Introduced in 1957, it has served with every branch of the U.S. military and still serves with other armed forces. Its manufacture and continued upgrade for military and commercial purchase continues into the 21st century, though it has been replaced or supplemented in most roles by other designs, notably the M240 in U.S. service.
The M60 is a belt-fed machine gun that fires the 7.62 mm NATO cartridge(.308 winchester) commonly used in larger rifles. It is generally used as crew-served weapon and operated by a team of two or three individuals. The team consists of the gunner, the assistant gunner (AG in military slang), and the ammunition bearer. The gun’s weight and the amount of ammunition it consumes when fired make it difficult for a single soldier to carry and operate. The gunner carries the weapon and, depending on his strength and stamina, anywhere from 200 to 1000 rounds of ammunition. The assistant carries a spare barrel and extra ammunition, and reloads and spots targets for the gunner. The ammunition bearer carries additional ammunition and the tripod with associated traversing and elevation mechanism, if issued, and fetches more ammunition as needed during firing.

The Recordist Blog: Gun Recording October – 21 2011
Here is a quick blog post about my experience recording some big guns. There is a lot more to tell but I wanted to share some of my initial thoughts, video and pictures from the session. The shoot was arranged very quickly because the weather here in North Idaho was about to turn nasty and I wanted to get some gun sounds before the end of the year. Rain was forecast for the days after the shoot but the day of the shoot there was only a 30% chance which in North Idaho means it’s hit and miss.
